So why did Governor Newson propose passing Proposition 50, the Election Rigging Response Act? It was a response to Texas! trump asked Texas Governor Abbott to elect him 5 more Republican legislators to the House of Representatives. Abbott enthusiastically responded by gerrymandering 5 Texas Democrats out of their seats. Essentially, trump asked Abbott to rig the Midterm elections so Congress would remain in the hands of Republicans and secure his power for the next 2 years!
Governor Newsom responded by asking Californians to fight back! He proposed that IF Texas carried through on its plan, California should gerrymander our congressional districts so that 5 California Republicans could lose their seats.
Texas acted on trump’s request without first gaining Texas voter approval. In contrast, California sought legislative approval to place Proposition 50 on the special election ballot and then go to California voters for approval.
Despite all their finger pointing at Democrats, rigged elections have been embraced by Republicans for decades. They have employed gerrymandering and voter suppression to protect their candidates from a fair fight at the ballot box.
Unsurprisingly, when Democrats attempt to utilize the same tactic, Republicans cry, “Foul”!
The trump administration is destroying Democracy at its core. The “Rule of Law”, constitutional rights of “Due Process” and Free Speech have been trampled! It has terrorized undocumented immigrants in a manner similar to Nazi Germany! They have alienated our allies, destroyed our economy, and are gutting access to healthcare for as many as 50 million citizens (about twice the population of Texas) just to give tax cuts to the rich!
Democracy is at a tipping point! Our rules of engagement must change, or we will lose the Democracy that our founding fathers envisioned.
Democrats must take control of Congress in 2026 the midterms!
