The Supreme Court’s decision in Citizens United opened the floodgates to campaign spending by giant corporations. This upended campaign spending limitations. The court reasoned that corporations are people who have First Amendment rights. However, there is a way to end the influx of money to elect candidates or promote an agenda. States can pass laws that limit election spending and hold corporations accountable under those laws. Montana has passed such a bill, and 9 states have already introduced similar bills. Support your State’s legislation that limits corporate spending.
