Our History: Rooted in Plumas County, Powered by Democratic Values

For generations, the Democratic Party has been the engine behind America’s most critical progress—fighting for the working class, championing civil rights, and protecting the environment. Here in Plumas County, the Democratic Central Committee (PCDCC) translates those national ideals into local action.

We believe that the best of the Democratic legacy is built from the ground up, in rural communities just like ours.

The Democratic Party Legacy

Since its founding, the Democratic Party has stood for a simple, powerful idea: we are stronger together.

From the New Deal programs that brought infrastructure and electricity to rural America, to the creation of Social Security, Medicare, and the Affordable Care Act, Democrats have historically fought to ensure that every American has a fair shot. We are the party of labor rights, civil rights, women’s rights, and environmental stewardship.

Today, those fights continue. Whether it’s defending reproductive freedom, protecting the right to vote, or demanding accountability from our institutions, the national party’s history is an ongoing story of expanding democracy and opportunity for all.

The Plumas County Democratic Central Committee

National progress means little if it doesn’t reach our own backyards. The Plumas County Democratic Central Committee was established to be the local voice for those shared values here in the Sierra Nevada.

Over the years, the PCDCC has worked to:

  • Empower Local Voters: From voter registration drives in Quincy to candidate meet-and-greets in Chester, we ensure our neighbors have a voice in every election.

  • Advocate for Rural Needs: We fight for policies that directly impact our daily lives, including wildfire resilience, accessible rural healthcare, and the protection of our public lands.

  • Build Coalitions: We are proud founding members of the Plumas-Sierra Political Coalition (PSPC), partnering with groups such as Indivisible to unite left-leaning voters across the region.

Writing the Next Chapter

History isn’t just something we look back on; it’s what we are building right now. As we face new challenges to our democracy and our climate, the Plumas County Democrats remain committed to action, equity, and the absolute rule of law.

Whether your family has been in Plumas County for generations or you just moved here, there is a place for you in this work.
