California Licensed Drivers Automatically Registered to Vote

On October 10th, 2015, Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill making voter registration automatic for all California citizens obtaining or renewing a driver’s license. Championed by Secretary of State Alex Padilla, this legislation makes California the second state to enact such a measure. The move was met with opposition from Republicans, who are seen as wanting to restrict voter registration.
